A chain organization such as McDonald’s operates multiple stores in multiple markets. The chain store industry is one of the largest in the world in North America with the United States at the top followed by Canada. My research stream theorizes on chain organizations across multiple contexts such as social media, organization experience, and sustainability. My research questions are addressed using econometrics, analytical modeling, and experiments. Additionally, I utilize machine learning and API applications to collect data from different sources. Contextually, I study multi-unit franchising chains, in which a franchisee owner (owner hereafter) operates multiple stores in multiple markets under the chain’s brand name. While multi-unit owners are common in the chain industry, they have been neglected in academic research. My research stream unpacks the multi-unit practice from chains as well as the owner’s perspective and explores its influence on the stores and their customers. In the future, I intend to study chain organizations across different contexts. The following is the visual depiction of my future research program:
